For the past decade, I’ve been a dedicated adventure enthusiast and photographer, fully immersing myself in the wonders of winter from the cozy confines of my trusty Tacoma truck. As we gear up for yet another exhilarating winter season, I can hardly contain my excitement for the impending months of hiking, snowshoeing, and exploration. There’s something truly magical about those crisp winter nights spent trekking under the star-lit canopy of pine trees.

Here in Northern Michigan, the buzz of activity is gradually winding down. When the leaves have gracefully fallen, and the landscape is cloaked in a pristine blanket of snow, it’s the adventurers who remain. Those of us who relish the cold and silence, viewing it not as an inconvenience, but as an invitation to uncover the region’s hidden gems. For us, this is the ultimate season of discovery.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of chasing winter across the country, from the peaks of Colorado to the sun-soaked coasts of California, the arid deserts of Arizona, and even the balmy shores of Florida. However, some of my most cherished winter memories have been right here in Traverse City.
