Sunrise or Sunset? Choosing the Best Time for Your Northern Michigan Proposal
When planning your Northern Michigan proposal, one of the biggest decisions is timing—sunrise or sunset? Both offer magical light and breathtaking scenery, but the experience can feel very different. I recently had the honor of capturing a beautiful deluxe proposal for Denis and Evelyn that perfectly highlighted the best of both.

Sunrise Proposal at Sleeping Bear Point Trail:
Denis planned a surprise proposal at sunrise on the Sleeping Bear Point Trail, just outside Glen Haven. The morning light was soft and ethereal as we hiked in through the quiet dunes. Evelyn’s surprise was beautifully captured against the glowing horizon—and the stillness of the morning made the whole moment feel extra intimate. If you’re an early riser or want complete privacy, sunrise is the way to go. Fewer crowds, golden tones, and that peaceful hush across the landscape make it unforgettable.

Sunset Adventure at Chateau Chantal:
Later that day, the couple met me again—this time dressed to the nines—for a golden hour session at Chateau Chantal on Old Mission Peninsula. The lush vineyard views and romantic light were the perfect contrast to their morning adventure. As the sun dipped below the bay, we headed to a nearby boat dock to finish their session with a dreamy lakefront backdrop. If you’re dreaming of warm glows and post-proposal celebrations, sunset might be your moment.

Why Book a Deluxe Proposal Package?
Denis opted for my deluxe proposal package which includes:
Sunrise or sunset flexibility
Two outfits or two locations
A longer session for more variety
Champagne or custom add-ons (yes, I’ve brought Guinness for one client!)
Whether you’re proposing at Sleeping Bear Dunes or a vineyard on Old Mission Peninsula, I’m here to guide you through it all.
