Your Guide to a Personalized Senior Adventure Session
Senior year is a milestone worth celebrating, and your senior portraits should reflect your unique personality and style. This year, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to capture some unforgettable senior adventures in Traverse City and beyond. From bold urban settings to serene natural backdrops, every session has been as unique as the seniors themselves. Here’s a glimpse of my favorite 2024 senior sessions and tips to help you plan a session that’s truly you.

1. Choose a Location That Speaks to You
Your senior photos should reflect who you are—not just what’s trending. While Sleeping Bear Dunes offers epic views, it might not resonate with everyone. Consider what feels right for you:
- City Vibes: Downtown Traverse City provides a dynamic backdrop with its bustling streets, colorful murals, and cozy spots like Horizon Book Store.
- Rustic Charm: Prefer the countryside? One senior opted for Boyne Highlands Ski Resort and downtown Boyne City, complete with cowboy boots, a hat, and a flowing dress.
- Creekside Cool: For a bold, edgy vibe, one senior rocked a punk-inspired look by a serene creek, complete with vibrant dyed hair.
The right location can make your session feel comfortable, authentic, and most importantly, fun.
2. Bring More Than One Outfit
Your outfit choices are a powerful way to showcase your personality. Don’t limit yourself to one formal look—embrace the opportunity to show different sides of yourself:
- Bold and Fun: Bring a second outfit that screams you! Whether it’s casual, trendy, or unique, let your personality shine.
- Thematic Attire: Incorporate meaningful elements like a sports uniform, a favorite band tee, or even a costume for a whimsical twist.
One senior mixed chic and playful styles across three outfits, transitioning from a glamorous gown to a laid-back boho look and a trendy street-style outfit. The variety added depth and dimension to her session.
3. Consider the Session Length
Think about how much time you’ll need to capture everything you want:
- 60-Minute Session: Perfect if you have one or two outfits and a single location in mind.
- Extended Adventure: Ideal for three or more outfits, multiple locations, or a mix of indoor and outdoor shots. With more time, we can include candid moments, close-ups, and a variety of poses without feeling rushed.
4. What to Expect
During a session, I aim to make the experience enjoyable and stress-free. Here’s how it works:
- I’ll guide you through a mix of posed and candid shots, sharing previews directly from my camera so you can provide feedback in real time.
- I capture approximately 1,000 to 1,500 images, carefully selecting the best for editing. Standard sessions include 100 edited photos, while extended sessions include 150+.
- Every photo receives professional retouching, from softening skin to removing distractions like flyaways or cars in the background. Rush delivery is also available if you need your photos sooner.
5. Tips for a Stress-Free Session
Feeling a little nervous? You’re not alone. Here’s how to prepare:
- Plan Ahead: Scout locations and prepare your outfits in advance.
- Relax and Have Fun: Your session is about celebrating you, so embrace the moment.
- Trust the Process: I’m here to make sure you feel confident and comfortable throughout.
